Polarized Lenses

polarizedWith summertime coming around again, you will need some protective eye wear. Polarized sunglasses are a great way to help protect your eyes from the potentially harmful rays of the sun. Light is made up of waves travelling in different directions. Vertical light is useful to the human eye. Horizontal light simply creates glare. Glare is the horizontal light reflecting off a shiny surface, such as a car window, water, snow or roads. Non-polarized lenses indiscriminately filter all light whether it is horizontal or vertical. Although glare is diminished it is not eliminated. When filtering all components of light, visual acuity is diminished. Polarized lenses allow in the vertical component of light, which is preferred for clear vision, while eliminating the horizontal component of light. There are few times when polarized lenses are not recommended, such as skiing. When skiing you need to be able to see icy patches on the trails, polarized lenses do not allow you to see these icy patches as they stop the light from reflecting off the ice. Overall polarized lenses are the most beneficial type of lenses to have in your sunglasses.
